Build the AI index
The AI index turns each photo into a small “embedding” — a numeric fingerprint of what’s in it. Once your photos are indexed, you can find them by typing what you remember instead of scrolling. The index is also what powers smart collections like receipts and screenshots.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”- Mount your photos first. The index can only see photos Kura-chan can read — see Add your photos.
- Indexing is a paid feature (Lite or Pro). On the Free plan the panel shows “Indexing is a paid feature” with a link to view plans.
Build the index
Section titled “Build the index”-
Open Photos → Settings and find the Index section.
-
Click Index all unindexed — the button shows how many photos still need indexing.
-
Leave it running. Indexing happens in the background and continues as you use Kura-chan; you’ll see Indexing in progress… and Waiting for slot while it works, then All images indexed when it’s done.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”Indexing pauses itself and shows a banner when it can’t continue:
- “No embedding endpoint configured — indexing is paused.” Open provider settings and configure an image-embedding endpoint, then indexing resumes.
- “Embedding storage is full — indexing is paused until you raise the limit.” Increase the storage limit from the banner.
- “Kura session expired — sign in again to resume indexing.” Sign in again; indexing picks up where it left off.
- Quota reached. If you’ve used your monthly indexing quota, the remaining photos index automatically once the quota resets next month, or after you upgrade.
What’s next
Section titled “What’s next”Once at least one photo is indexed, you can search by text.
