Recognize people

Kura-chan can detect faces and group your photos by person, so you can browse everything of one person in a tap — and find them by name in search.

  • Mount your photos first — see Add your photos.
  • Face recognition is available on every plan, including Free.
  1. Open Photos → People.

  2. Click Scan Faces. Kura-chan detects faces and clusters them by person — you’ll see Detecting faces… then Clustering… while it works. Scanning a large library may take a while; it runs in the background.

  3. Turn on Auto to keep picking up faces in new photos automatically.

  4. Click a cluster and give it a name. Named people appear under Named; Kura-chan also offers Suggested matches you can confirm or reject.

Faces don’t always cluster perfectly. From a person’s page or Manage faces:

  • Merge — combine two clusters that are the same person. This can be undone.
  • Split — break a cluster that accidentally mixed two people.
  • Move to… — send a misfiled face to the right person.
  • Set as avatar — tap any face to make it the cover for that person.
  • Hide — remove someone from the People list. Hidden people are also excluded from search results.
  • Rename — change a person’s name at any time.
  • One person split into several groups. Open the groups and Merge them together.
  • A stranger’s face landed in the wrong group. Split the cluster, or Move the face to the correct person.
  • Someone you don’t want listed. Hide them — they leave the People list and search results but their photos stay in your library.
  • Scanning seems stuck. It runs in the background; large libraries take time. Leave it and check back.
